Another hectic week on PistonHeads and one with plenty to catch up on if you've been out in the sunshine rather than staring into a screen. Not to worry if you have - we've digested the highlights and brought them all together for you here. Enjoy!
We started the week with news that Chris Froome's success in the Tour de France may result in his next ascent of Mont Ventoux being even faster than before, courtesy of Jaguar
. Staying on two wheels Jon Urry tested Dunlop's new track day rubber
while Harris took the new Clio Cup race car
for a blast round Silverstone. And our Caterham Academy winner Dan Livingstone seems to be adapting to his new life as a racing driver rather well, his first race at Donington proving his talent
in fine style. And another week and another mention of Loeb, this time with confirmation of his new company car - the Citroen C-Elysee WTCC
racer he'll be driving next year. Keep an eye open for Matt's reports from the 24 Hours of Spa too - liveblog coming, subject to Belgian internet connections.
For sale, one careful owner
PH wouldn't be PH without discussion of used cars and we had the two extremes this week. First, a genuine Shed
in the shape of a £250 Alfa with nearly a year's MoT and possibility of true bargain basement motoring. Same can't be said of another Italian car
in the PH classifieds this week, one proudly described as the vendor as being the most expensive ever sold in our history. How much? Um, POA. So we asked. And were told not to expect much change from £10m. Some sensible middle ground appeared in the form of a very tempting UK-sold RX-7 for a very reasonable £7K. A rare beauty
. Another rarity presented itself in the shape of a Renault Sport Spider
- just the job for the heat wave and a bit different from the default Elise.
Fonder for a Honda
Unashamed Honda fan (and owner) Matt celebrated the Accord Type R
in the latest PH Heroes piece while we discussed a little more about the forthcoming 'ring record chasing Civic Type R
and how it intends to beat Renaultsport's claim to the title. There are plenty of other new cars gunning it round the Nordschleife
too, disturbing Dale from his work in the process. At least he got to drive one though. Back to Honda though, and a neat bit of promotion for the return to F1 with some old Senna telemetry, a load of speakers and a night time Suzuka. See here
Team PH speaks
Paul came back from a sunny Sunday chilling with Aston Martin in Kensington Gardens fully loved up. Maybe it was the sun. Maybe it was the free champagne. Or, more probably, the biggest gathering of Aston Martins
ever seen in one place. In a busy week for the British brand we reported AMG being confirmed as a future engine supplier
before Dan mused on one aspect of the partnership nobody else seems to have considered. Read the blog here
. Dan also reported on the latest with the PH fleet Focus ST
, wondering how it might benefit from the Mountune upgrades
tested by Harris last week.
- Jaguar XJR and XF-R tested
- Harris tests the Audi RS6 against AMG's CLS63 Shooting Brake
